Telehealth EMDr therapy WA state
Insight to get you unstuck.
You’ve consulted google, you’ve self-diagnosed, read books and done talk therapy. It’s not like those weren’t helpful but, it still doesn’t make “sense”, you don’t feel healed. You’ve done everything you’re supposed to do but you still feel stuck. You’ve tried to move on and pretend the problem isn’t there. It doesn’t seem like there’s a solution. You’re starting to wonder “Is this as good as is gets?”
You feel like that trauma, that problem, that belief that you’ve been trying to bury Just. Won’t. Go. Away. So you’ve filled your plate with responsibilities and distractions. It worked for a while, you felt like you were able to outrun or bury it but you’re running out of steam. You’re starting to realize you can’t get away from it, you have to face it. You’re not sure you can handle it.
I’m here to tell you, you’ve got this. We’ve got this! It takes so much courage to do this work, but it’s so worth it. If you’re thinking about it, you’re ready to explore! You deserve to believe that you are good enough, that you belong and that you are safe. EMDR is a powerful modality I used to help people like you get unstuck.
Together we’ll move through the eight phases of EMDR:
History taking and planning
Preparation including self-soothing
Assessment and identification of targets, memories and needs areas
Desensitization of targets
Installation/integration of positive beliefs and resources
Body scan to assess residual distress
Closure of session with self-soothing
Re-evaluation to identify efficacy and next steps in planning

“It’s like I’m anxious all the time. Ever since {event} happened, I haven’t been the same. I haven’t felt happy, safe or calm. It’s like I’m always looking over my shoulder, or waiting for the other shoe to drop.”
“I’m afraid my {partner/boss/friends/co-workers} will find out I don’t deserve {my wage/my position/their love}. They don’t know I don’t really deserve it. I’m afraid they will figure out the real me. I’m afraid they will figure out I’m really a fraud.”
“I feel like I’m not good enough. I think that might not be true but I believe deep down I am not good enough.”
“I know (event) prevents me from being able to…”

Common questions about EMDR therapy:
-
It’s easiest to describe EMDR sessions as either preparation or active process.
During preparation sessions, we are working on history taking, self-soothing, trust building and target identification including identifying memory networks. During these preparation sessions, we are doing a lot more talking, documenting and planning.
During and active processing session, you can plan to spend about five minutes checking in. We’ll discuss what came up since last session including any new insights, triggers or memories that came up. Then we will pick up the target from the previous session or identify a new target to start working on. Much of the rest of session is spent doing active process using bi-lateral stimulation, with the last five or so minutes being spent for self-soothing and coping ahead for the next week.

An EMDR intensive is where EMDR is used to help the client move through trauma, negative beliefs and stuck points in an intensive, short period of time.
While a standard EMDR session is about 50 minutes in length and treatment durations lasting six months to a year or more, an EMDR intensive is multiple hours in one sitting. An EMDR intensive may be a standalone service or may be used in multiple sessions, with overall less duration in treatment. An EMDR half day intensive is four hours in length, while a full day EMDR intensive is seven hours in length. Intensive can help you move through processing faster and reduce symptoms more quickly. EMDR intensive are a great option for someone seeking efficient treatment outcomes.

I recommend anyone new to EMDR do research a little about it before starting. This helps you get a better understanding, and more importantly ask more questions! EMDR is very different from traditional talk therapy, so being on the same page can be very helpful. You can learn more about EMDR here.
